Do you experience anxiety every time you are left alone or whenever your loved one leaves the house? You could have separation anxiety. Separation anxiety usually stems from a childhood where you were abandoned or when you were left alone or in a strange environment and you had a fear that nobody was going to return for you. Lots of people live with separation anxiety but coping with separation anxiety becomes necessary if you want to live a normal life. First you should learn to recognize the symptoms of the anxiety so that you can learn ways of coping with separation anxiety before it becomes a problem. Then you should try to get some help either from a licensed therapist or through a doctor.

Coping with separation anxiety can easily be done by recognizing the symptoms and then dealing with them before they become a problem. The symptoms of anxiety are usually a rapid heartbeat, a flushed face, nervousness, a panic attack, rapid breathing and there are sometimes a few others. Coping with separation anxiety can be done by practicing deep breathing exercises whenever you feel the symptoms coming. For example, if your loved one is leaving for work and you begin to feel very nervous all of a sudden, you should close your eyes and breathe deeply ten times very slowly until the symptoms subside. This may work for you. If it doesn’t, it may be time to get some help for your disorder.

Getting Help For Coping With Separation Anxiety

Coping with separation anxiety may require the help of a licenses therapist or a doctor. Make an appointment with one of them and visit regularly. You’ll more than likely find out why you developed the disorder, usually in your childhood, why you are experiencing it in adulthood and you’ll also probably find some exercises or other ways of coping with separation anxiety so that you can live life normally. It really depends on the severity of the disorder and how strongly it affects your life. Don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed because you have the disorder. Instead, recognize that you have it and then get help for it.

Lots of adults have this disorder and many are coping with separation anxiety disorder just as you are. Just make sure you get the help you need before it affects your life too strongly.

If you or someone you know suffers from adult separation anxiety disorder, you should know that all hope isn’t lost. You merely have to work at coping with separation anxiety and this can be done by getting help from a qualified professional such as a therapist or a psychologist or psychiatrist. Adult separation anxiety disorder generally stems from being abandoned as a child. This happens with kids who were given up for adoption or who were left alone for long periods of time so much that it affected them and caused them anxiety because they thought nobody was coming back. Since they didn’t get help as children, the anxiety stayed with them and they now have adult separation anxiety disorder.

Symptoms Of Adult Separation Anxiety Disorder

What are the symptoms of adult separation anxiety disorder? Well, adults that have adult separation anxiety disorder start exhibiting symptoms whenever they are left alone or whenever someone they trust goes away. The symptoms are a tightening of the chest, a rapid heartbeat, a feeling of panic, sometimes a panic attack follows, the room sometimes starts to spin, their face gets flushed and some exhibit more symptoms than that. Even if you just get really nervous, you could still have adult separation anxiety disorder, you just may have a mild form of the disorder. Getting help is as close as your nearest therapist’s office. You should, however, find a qualified professional who is skilled with dealing with adults with separation anxiety disorder so that you know they can help you specifically.

Finding Help For Adult Separation Anxiety Disorder

You could open the phone book and you’d likely see many listings for therapists and doctors in your area. You could also do an internet search for therapists or doctors and you’d also get inundated with names and phone numbers. Call these doctors and therapists and ask if they have experience with adult separation anxiety disorder. When you finally find one that’s close to you that has experience with the disorder, make an appointment.

Therapy for adult separation anxiety disorder will take some time to show results but as long as you keep up with it and you are hopeful that you can find freedom from the disorder, you will once again be able to live your life normally. Just realize that you’re not alone. Many adults have separation anxiety disorder and this affects their lives just as it does yours. It’s only be seeking help and then receiving that help that you will be able to rid yourself of this disorder once and for all.

Adults with separation anxiety disorder typically acquired their problem during their childhood. And when a child gets separation anxiety, it can affect not only their lives but also those who happen to be around them. Separation anxiety in children generally forms when kids are abandoned by their parents, such as when they are given up for adoption, or it can even occur when a child merely thinks they may be abandoned. Separation anxiety in children causes them to get very anxious whenever they are left alone or put into a strange environment, such as dropped off at school or a babysitters for the first time. They will begin to cry and act out and they typically cannot be consoled easily. So what do you do when you have a child that exhibits the symptoms of separation anxiety in children? You should find an expert who knows how to deal with the disorder.

Therapists For Separation Anxiety Children

Take the child to a therapist who knows how to deal with separation anxiety in children and you will have completed the first step in straightening out the child. Do not leave the child with the therapist but instead attend the meetings with the child. This is imperative. The child must be around at least someone he or she trusts. If you leave the child, then the separation anxiety will erupt at that moment and no new headway will be made. Reassure the child that you will be there the entire time and hopefully he or she will calm down enough to enable the therapist to work with the child.

Reassurance Can Be Done With Separation Anxiety in Children

After a certain amount of time has passed with the child with separation anxiety seeing the therapist, you should be able to leave the child at a babysitters or drop him or her off at school with no problem. Make sure you reassure the child that you are going to be back. You are not leaving the child for good or abandoning the child. Children with separation anxiety think just that; they think nobody is coming back for them. Make sure they know that this isn’t the case. If you aren’t making any headway even after seeing the therapist, you may have to resort to some form of medication.

Medication Can Calm children With Separation Anxiety

Some people have a big problem with giving any children medication of any kind, and for good reason. Kids’ bodies aren’t yet developed and so shouldn’t have any kind of drug or medication introduced to their systems. However, children with separation anxiety generally cannot live or enjoy their lives because the anxiety takes over. This may be a case where medication can calm them down enough to be able to live life normally. Make sure a trained and certified professional makes that call and prescribes the medication for separation anxiety in children. Use this only as a last resort, only after therapy and working with the child does little good.

Separation anxiety treatment comes in a lot of different forms and methods. The degree of the method used for separation anxiety treatment is dependent on how severe the case of separation anxiety is for the child. Separation anxiety is the occurrence of anxiety and fear on the part of the child when a parent leaves. The result can be a tantrum, tears and bouts of anxiety and fear on the part of the child. Clinging to the parent can occur as well as all forms of theatrics.

Parental Help In Separation Anxiety Treatment

The initial move for separation anxiety treatment is usually in the part of the parents. It is almost always the parent or the focus of the child’s separation anxiety that can help resolve the disorder. The child should be reassured when it is time for the adult to leave and the adult should also be calm, firm and collected when leaving. Peeping at the child or hesitating when leaving can trigger more bouts of crying as well as tantrums from the child and undermine the move for separation anxiety treatment. It is best to calmly assure the child of your return and just as firmly leave immediately.

Separation anxiety treatment can also come in the form of circumventing the anxiety. Children can be introduced to various adults to get him used to new faces and the experience of having a new person to associate with. It also helps to get the child familiar with a school and the general hullabaloo of a school. Circumventing separation anxiety can be the greatest separation anxiety treatment ever.

Separation anxiety in children can also be an effect of how their parents act. Anxious parents can affect their child since children can sense the moods of their parents without fully understanding them. The parent should be calm and self assured when dropping off the child and be in school before it is time for the child to be let out. A harassed and anxious parent can set the tome for a child. Separation anxiety treatment can also be in the form of keeping one’s word when it comes to the time of picking up the child.

Some forms of separation anxiety treatment are used for severe separation anxiety. Psychotherapy can be recommended for children who do not seem to improve in spite of the various separation anxiety treatments and allowances that the parents and teachers do. Medication is usually not recommended as separation anxiety treatment for children unless there is something really difficult to treat with them.

Separation anxiety is a disorder that supposedly occurs to children around the age of eight months to a couple of years. This situation often resolves itself when the child is assured that the parents or the object of its anxiety consistently returns. Separation anxiety in preschool can also occur to some children.

The main cause of separation anxiety in preschool is the appearance of several new faces in the child’s world like those of the teachers and classmates. The overwhelming sensation of new faces can undo even the most confident child. This coupled with the fact that the parent or parents who brought him over attempts to leave can trigger separation anxiety in most children. Separation anxiety in preschool age children is to be expected and should not be belittled by both parents and teachers.

Treating Preschool Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety treatment for children around early school age can be similar to treating the separation anxiety that occurred when the child was younger. Separation anxiety in preschool aged children is something that parents should deal with before the child even knows that he’s supposed to go to school. Parents can start by bringing the child around to the school that he is supposed to go to or any other school for a short look and see. As the child gets accustomed to seeing school children going to and from school, he might even want to go himself. Practicing separation for just a few periods of time can also help.

Getting over separation anxiety in preschool can also be done by introducing the child to the teacher handling hi class before the school starts. A nice play and get together session can inspire trust in the teacher and help the child get to know her better. Another way to help overcome separation anxiety in preschool is to always be there when the child comes out from school and to be a positive example when leaving the child. An encouraging parent is better than an angry one, when it comes to saying good bye.

Introducing your child to a lot of people can also help overcome separation anxiety during preschool. As your child gets more and more sociable, he will get used to the fact that there are a lot of people in his life and can readily accept the presence of newcomers. It may also help to time the introduction of school during a happy time. Bringing your child to school for the first time should be during a time when all is calm and relaxed. Set aside time to be visible to your child during the first day of class, even just for the good bye and the dismissal.

Social anxiety is a difficult condition to have: it can make someone feel as if they are not able to connect or communicate with other people. This can result in a person not leaving their house, severe depression, and low performance at work. Thus, it is important to consider all cures for social anxiety. The following are some ways to deal with social anxiety. Though none of the following are instant social anxiety cures, if implemented on a consistent basis, they can result in some major results.

Counseling IS The Major Step In Social Anxiety Cure

Counseling can help everything from social anxiety to separation anxiety. In fact, if you can’t seem to manage your own anxiety, counseling can even be a social anxiety cure. Many people in the world suffer from social anxiety, and this fear and feeling of stress can keep them from forming healthy relationships with people. There are trained counselors who can talk the issue through with you. Many fears associated with social environments and behavior stem from something, whether environmental, chemical, or both, and a counselor can help identify the root of the problem. As soon as the problem is identified and examined, you will then have a partner in overcoming this. After identification of the underlying factors, a plan of action can be put into place.

Medication Is An Effective Way Of Social Anxiety Cure

Medication is one of the most effective ways to cure social anxiety. Though it may not be a stand-alone solution (i.e. you may need counseling along with it), it can be incredibly effective. There are all sorts of medications available to those who suffer from chronic and severe anxiety. In fact, many different anxieties are caused by the same brain chemicals. Thus, a medication for insomnia or separation anxiety may very well be effective to cure social anxiety. Given the success rates for such medication, it is definitely something to talk about with your doctor and to consider.

Final Step For Social Anxiety Cure: Ask Friends and Family Members for Help

Lastly, a major way to cure social anxiety is to learn how to talk to people and to learn how to feel comfortable in social situations. If you bring a friend or family member along to situations that normally leave you stressed or depressed, then these situations may end up less stressful. This is because you know at least one person in the room. If you know someone already, it can help calm you down because you’ll have someone to talk to and because you won’t be physically alone.

A lot of people hesitate to attend parties and social gatherings because they are anxious that they will not fit in right away. Although it is normal to feel a little bit anxious about meeting new people, it is not normal to feel panicky every time someone suggests that you attend a party or social gathering. A sudden panic attack that won’t go away for several hours is not normal. To help you fell more at east about socializing and attending social functions, here are some important things that you should remember.

Bring A Friend Along To The Social Gathering: It Helps In Overcoming Social Anxiety

Overcoming social anxiety may not be as easy as we think it is. For many people, overcoming social anxiety is a big hurdle. If you are one of those people who have problems overcoming your social anxiety, you need to establish a strong support system. When you are invited to a party and you do not feel comfortable about the idea of going to the party all by yourself, ask your host if you can bring along a friend to the gathering. Remember that overcoming social anxiety is easier if you have someone with one. Most hosts allow their guests to bring along a date or a friend so you should not hesitate to ask your host about it.

Avoid Pre-party Anxiety

Many people worry themselves sick just thinking of what might happen during the party. If you are one of those people who are fond of playing hypothetical scenarios in your mind until you are worried sick that you are going to commit some terrible mistakes and embarrass yourself during the party, you better cut that kind of thinking right this minute. Nervous anticipation is a terrible thing and if you do not want to suffer from indigestion, you better stop thinking about what might happen during the party. Instead of thinking about a lot of terrible things that could happen during the party, take a more positive view of things. Remember that overcoming social anxiety starts with positive thinking.

Overcoming Social Anxiety: Don’t Drink Or Smoke During The Party

When you feel nervous during the party, do not turn to cigarettes or alcohol for comfort. According to experts, smoking and drinking will only make matters worst for you. Instead of drinking or smoking, you should find someone to talk to during the party. Start a conversation with the person next to you.

Most of us suffer from panic attacks every now and them when we are put in a situation where we have to deal with an unfamiliar people. It is not uncommon for us to feel uneasy and even panicky when we arrive at a party and not see a single familiar face. Although some of us eventually overcome our fear of the crowd and move on to meet new people, a lot of people are not really that brave. More often than not, people runaway from a situation where they feel that they have no control over. Fortunately, overcoming social anxiety is easier if you have the right social anxiety support system. No, you do not have to bring a whole army of people as your social anxiety support during a party or meeting when you are forced to face a lot people whom you do not know. The thought that you have someone in the background that is sympathetic to your plight is enough to make things better.

Organizing Your Social Anxiety Support Network

We all need out own social anxiety support network. No, you do not have to be diagnosed with social anxiety to need a social anxiety support network. The fact that you need to deal with a lot of stress at home and in the office is already a good reason for you to maintain an informal social anxiety support network composed of family members and friends. Talking to these people about your fears can help you deal with your day to day affairs. Just make sure that you do not run to these people whining about a lot of things on a daily basis. Listening to you talking about your fears and anxieties on a daily basis can be very tiring indeed.

Although some people are able to overcome their fears on their own, a lot of people need professional help and treatments. Overcoming social anxiety can be quite difficult at times. If you social anxiety goes deeper than the usual uneasiness that we all feel when we have to deal with people that we have just meet for the first time, you need more than a social anxiety network to help you with your problems. According to experts, people who feel severe panic attacks when they are thrown into circumstances when they have to deal with a lot of people in a crowd needs special attention.

There are a lot of different types of anxiety disorders, but perhaps one of the most frightening and debilitating forms is called anxiety and panic disorder. The disorder is a serious healthy problem, but it can be treated successfully. Some scientists estimate that around 1.7% of American adults have suffered from anxiety and panic disorder at one point in their lives.

Anxiety and panic disorder is often associated with – or even misdiagnosed – as agoraphobia, but the two not the same, although some scientists believed that as many as 36% of anxiety panic disorder sufferers also suffer from agoraphobia as well.

Symptoms of Anxiety And Panic Disorder

The symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder are especially terrifying when compared to the other types of anxiety disorders. Someone with anxiety and panic disorder suffers from intense periods of extreme anxiety known as panic attacks. They can last up to an hour, although 1-10 minutes is more common. What makes the panic attacks worse is that they can wax and wane for hours, occurring one right after another.

The panic attacks cause heart palpitations, sweating, dizziness, trembling, and shortness of breath – and that’s just the physical symptoms. The attacks cause intense, uncontrollable fear, and some patients even say they feel like they are “going crazy” in the middle of them.

When And How Often Does Anxiety And Panic Disorder Occurs?

Typically, anxiety and panic disorder develops in early adulthood. Around half of its sufferers develop the disorder under the age of 24. Most of its other sufferers are between the ages of 25 and 30, and women are twice as likely to as men to develop anxiety and panic disorder.

Once a person develops anxiety and panic disorder, it can continue for months or even years, depending on whether the sufferer seeks treatment or not. If they choose not to get treatment, anxiety and panic disorder can become a real problem and seriously affect a person’s quality of life. It is also a form of social anxiety disorder, because sufferers report that their panic attacks affect everything they do, their relationships, even their working life.

It is extremely important that anxiety and panic disorder be successfully diagnosed early on because its symptoms are so severe. Death rates in people who have anxiety and panic disorder are found to be higher than the death rate in the general population, and the main cause is believe to be suicide, although doctors are unsure if it’s just anxiety and panic disorder or the combination of it and other disorders.

Treatment Of of Anxiety And Panic Disorder

Thankfully, anxiety and panic disorder can be successfully treated. Most often, cognitive behavioral therapy is used. The patient works with doctors to help curb negative thoughts and reduce or eliminate the attacks. Medication is usually not required, but in rare cases, doctors can prescribe antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs, which are taken as needed.

Get Help Fast For of Anxiety And Panic Disorder

If you believe you have anxiety and panic disorder, don’t be afraid to contact your doctor and get help – your life will be so much better once you get it under control.

Millions of Americans suffer from one type of anxiety disorder or another. They all share similar symptoms and affect people’s lives in very real ways. The only real difference between them is the source of the anxiety itself – figuring out what causes the anxiety is key to diagnosing the correct anxiety disorder a person has.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) An Important Type Of Anxiety Disorder

Someone suffering from generalized anxiety disorder often worries or gets scared over things they shouldn’t get upset about. They may not even realize they have a type of anxiety disorder at all because they just assume that everyone else worries as much as they do. They worry about all the things everyone worries about: money, health, relationships, etc. but for some reason, someone with GAD immediately assumes the worst is going to happen. They experience physical aches and pains, sleep poorly or not at all, and are exhausted all the time. Their muscles are tense or ache, and they often experience stomach problems like nausea. Irritability and difficulty concentrating are also common symptoms of this type of anxiety disorder.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Are Types Of Anxiety Disorders Charecterized By Obsessive Thoughts

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a type of anxiety disorder characterized by obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that are so prevalent that they greatly affect a person’s everyday life. Even though they know that the thoughts and behaviors are irrational, they can’t resist them. People with obsessive-compulsive fall into one of five categories of behavior: washers are terrified of becoming contaminated with germs and often wash their hands or clean compulsively; checkers repeatedly check appliances to make sure they’re turned off. Doubters and sinners are afraid that if everything in their life isn’t perfect, something terrible will happen to them. Counters and arrangers are obsessed with symmetry and order. They may be attracted to certain numbers, colors or arrangements. Lastly, hoarders are terrified that something bad will happen if they throw anything out.

Panic Attacks And Panic Disorder Are Charecterized By Panic Attacks

The type of anxiety disorder known as panic disorder (or sometimes anxiety and panic disorder) is characterized by panic attacks. These attacks often happen without warning and can even be triggered by something unknown. Symptoms of the attacks include shortness of breath, heart palpitations, trembling, sweating, nausea and lightheadedness. The attacks rarely last more than an hour, and most are less than ten minutes long.

Types Of Anxiety Disorders Associated with An Irrational Fear Are Termed Under Phobias

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder associated with an irrational fear. Everyone has a few of those, but for some people, they are more severe. The most common types are animal phobias (such as fear of spiders or snakes), natural environment phobias (such as a fear of heights or storms) and situational phobias (such as fear of being enclosed in a small space, fear of flying, or fear of speaking in public).

Social Anxiety Is Types Of Anxiety Disorders In Which There IS A Fear Of Social Situation

Someone suffering from the type of anxiety disorder known as social anxiety disorder experiences intense fear of social situations that are unfamiliar, such as speaking to a group of strangers in a public place. Sure, everyone gets butterflies in their stomach, but for people suffering from this disorder, the fear is so intense that they literally can’t do it. All sorts of situations are overly stressful for social anxiety sufferers: meeting new people, being called on in class, speaking with strangers, or even just being watched while doing something.

Are These Types Of Anxiety Disorders Treatable?

People suffering from any type of anxiety disorder may wonder if they will ever be able to live a life free of obsessive fear and worrying, but in reality, every type of anxiety disorder is treatable with a combination of behavioral therapy and, if necessary, medication. Lots of progress has been made in helping people manage their symptoms, and it’s possible for them to overcome their worries and get on with their lives.
